Three significant outdoor recreation amenities in Kilkenny are to receive a funding windfall under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS).

The lion's share of the funding (€500,000) has been allocated for the Nore Linear Park - Lacken Walk to facilitate upgrade works, including timber board replacement.

Millennium Forest and Jenkinstown Wood have also been allocated €200,000 each for trail improvements and upgrades.

Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Cllr Pat Fitzpatrick, welcomed the funding, saying that it is 'very important'.

"This funding will enhance for community facilities and everyone will be able to benefit from them, enjoying the great outdoors," he added.

"We know that people from all around the county enjoy walking around Jenkinstown and Millennium Wood and this will make that experience even more enjoyable.

"The €500,000 for the city will make a huge difference and really enhance Kilkenny's active offering."
