Kilkenny traffic restrictions confirmed as 200 supercars set to arrive in city

Motorists in Kilkenny City are being warned to expect temporary traffic restrictions and delays this Sunday as Cannonball 2026 makes its way into the city.
Around 200 supercars will take part in this year’s event, completing a 1,000km route around Ireland while raising funds and awareness for Ronald McDonald House Charities Ireland.
The event will finish in Kilkenny City, with participating vehicles expected to arrive from approximately 5.15pm.
The route into the city will travel via Cillín Hill, Dublin Road, John Street, Rose Inn Street and Castle Road.
To facilitate the event, Castle Road adjacent to the Parade Plaza will be closed to vehicular traffic from 2pm until 8pm to allow for event set-up, operation and demobilisation.
Alternative routes will be available via Nuncio Road, Waterford Road and Patrick Street.
The taxi rank on Castle Road will also be closed during this period. However, taxi services will continue, with the parking and loading bays on Patrick Street operating as a temporary taxi rank for the duration of the closure.
Further restrictions will come into effect from 4.30pm, when the junction of Castle Road, High Street and Patrick Street will be pedestrianised.
Vehicular access to Rose Inn Street will also be restricted from that time.
Kilkenny County Council is advising motorists to allow extra time for their journeys and to expect slower traffic flows and delays in the vicinity of the route as the supercars arrive in the city.
Road users are also being asked to follow diversion routes and temporary traffic management measures and comply with the directions of Gardaí, stewards and event personnel.
Motorists are encouraged to consider alternative routes where possible.
