Mikey Butler will captain Ireland in the Hurling-Shinty International against Scotland in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

O’Loughlin Gaels and Kilkenny defender Mikey Butler has been given a prestigious sporting role for this weekend.

Butler will captain Ireland for Saturday’s Hurling-Shinty International against Scotland in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

The Kilkenny hurler is the recipient of a PwC GAA/GPA Young Hurler of the Year title in 2022 as well as an All-Star that year and in 2023.

“It's a savage honour, a privilege really,” he told GAA.ie.

“You wouldn’t every really have thought about the possibility of playing for Ireland in the shinty, let alone being captain. Playing for Ireland in shinty is special, and being captain makes it that bit even more special,” he added.

“Best of luck from all in O’Loughlin Gaels,” his native club said ahead of the match.
