What started out as a discount book shop evolved into providing a huge range of books, from best sellers to discounted books – always remaining true to Khans’ ethos – ‘everyone can afford to shop in Khans’.

One of the most popular local businesses in Kilkenny City have announced that they are closing down.

Khans Book Shop, run by Khan Kiely, confirmed the news on social media earlier today (Tuesday).

“Khans Books is closing after 32 years,” the business stated.

“Khans Books wishes to thank all their customers and the schools who have supported them over the years.”

Khans Books has been open for business since 1994, and began trading in a small premises in James’ Street, Kilkenny, Ireland.

The shop moved four times over the coming years until settling back into a larger space in James’ Street, in 2000.

What started out as a discount book shop evolved into providing a huge range of books, from best sellers to discounted books – always remaining true to Khans’ ethos – ‘everyone can afford to shop in Khans’.

Khans were known for also having the largest selection of early learning and dyslexic books in Ireland.

Khan, as far as anyone knows is the only person to brave the world of owning and running a bookstore with the great advantage (some may think it’s a disadvantage) of having dyslexia and dyspraxia.

Over the years, she has built a fine reputation within the book buyers world, advising top government education ministers, supporting and encouraging reading for all, both nationally and locally.

Khan truly loves people and books, a great combination that has served her and her customers very well, throughout the years.

The shop is now holding a huge closing down sale and a date for final closure has not been announced.

In the meantime, local shoppers are more than welcome to call in, pick up a bargain, have a chat and share some memories.
