A novel fundraiser to raise money for a sick little boy will take place at the Springhill Hotel later this month for TJ Sheil.
On Sunday (November 12) people of all ages will swim or run or walk in the pool to help raise funds for the very special young child. The Swimathon is being organised by local swim teacher, Paula Dowling and there will also be a raffle and entertainment for all the family.
“We hope that you will get your friends and family to sponsor you,” said Ms Dowling.
“If you raise €50 or more on your sponsorship card you’ll get to enter for free. Otherwise it will be €15 per adult, €8 per child and €40 per family. People are being asked to swim, run or walk in the pool for 15 minutes.”
TJ Sheil was born with a rare condition called Lissencephaly and Epilepsy, which means that his cognitive development won’t progress much further than a six-month-old baby, while his body will continue to grow as time passes.
Due to the severity of his condition he needs assistance and support with a lot of everyday tasks. Monies raised will be donated towards the cost of adapting TJ's home.
His parents Darren and Julie said that TJ is an extremely happy child who ‘always has a smile’.
“As TJ’s parents we live to see him smile,” they said. “Anything else he learns to do is a bonus. He has already learned how to pull out his feeding tube, and is proud as punch when he succeeds. TJ will hopefully be well enough on the day to do his 15 minutes in the water.”
All are welcome, including non-swimmers. To book your slot contact Paula on 087-9421325. People can also make donations at: https://www.gofundme.com/
