Kilkenny councillor hits out at 'scourge' of disposable vapes

Cllr Maria Dollard has hit out at the widespread usage and littering associated with disposable vapes and has also warned about their potential environmental and health impacts.

They city councillor aired her thoughts during the most recent full meeting of Kilkenny County Council, following a presentation to elected members on waste management in the region.

During the presentation, the growing issue of vaping litter was raised by a representative of the Southern Waste Region.

Also raised was the recent approved legislation that would ban e-cigarettes being sold to people aged under 18 at shops, and ban them from being sold from vending machines, mobile premises and events for children.

“Disposable vapes are a scourge,” she said.

“Kids are leaving school addicted to nicotine. It is both a health issue and an addiction issue.

“They smell like jellies, look like highlighters, and can be easily concealed in pencil cases.”

Cllr Dollard asked fellow elected members to voice support for the vaping ban.
