Kilkenny crafts to receive national acclaim this August

A month long celebration of local craft makers kicked off in Kilkenny and across the country earlier this month.

August Craft Month hosts a vast range of exciting events across the country, with over 400 events taking place nationally.

Co Kilkenny will be at the heart of the activities with a number of local events taking place.

Celebrating the vibrant local craft scene, people will have the chance to experience exhibitions and workshops across a variety of crafts right on their doorstep as well as supporting local makers by buying products and learning more about their work.

Amongst the participants will be local makers Eva Lynch and Frederike Grace, who will showcase their talents over the course of the celebrations.

Events in Kilkenny include:

Silver jewellery for beginners: A one day workshop where students will get a basic foundation in jewellery making skills, learning techniques such as soldering, forming and polishing. (Grennan Mill Craft School, Island Mill, Thomastown on Wednesday, August 16 from 10am to 4pm)

Woodturning exhibition and sale: The award-winning Southeast Woodturners will present their 32nd annual exhibition and sale at Kilkenny Arts Week. The exhibition showcases their handcrafted wooden items, which are considered some of the best displays of craft in the country. (Ormonde College, Ormonde Road, Kilkenny from Friday, August 11 to Sunday, August 20, 10am to 5pm)
