Astronomy enthusiasts are in for a treat over the next few nights as an 'exceedingly rare' blue super moon is set to rise over Kilkenny.
A super moon occurs when a full moon nears its closest point to the Earth and a blue moon occurs when their are two full moons in one calendar month.
This current moon phase brings both of those coincidences together, hence the term 'blue super moon'.
The moon will reach its most visible point tonight (Tuesday), Wednesday and Thursday.
Astronomy Ireland CEO David Moore has described the 'blue super moon' as an 'exceedingly rare' astronomical event and is encouraging people to witness it for themselves.
