Lar Power
Lar Power told elected officials that he is 'honoured and humbled to be selected and ratified' as the new Chief Executive of Kilkenny County Council.
His comments came at this month's full meeting of the local authority, Power's first meeting in his new role.
In relation to his approach to decision-making, Power stated that he concerns himself always with: "What’s the right thing to do?"
He also highlighted the importance of creating sustainable jobs and sustainable communities and described the presentation and vibrancy of Kilkenny as 'exceptional'.
"We are all the one team," he told elected officials. "And the partnership between members and the executive is critically important."
Power takes over as Chief Executive following the departure of ex-CEO Colette Byrne last year, who had served as Kilkenny County Council's Chief Executive since 2015.
In the period between Byrne's departure and Power's arrival, Sean McKeown, then serving as Director of Services, took up the mantle as interim CEO.
This decision to ratify Mr Power as the new Chief Executive came after careful consideration and acceptance of the recommendation provided by the Public Appointments Service.
Mr Power brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise in the realm of local government, having served as the Chief Executive of Leitrim County Council for the last five years.
Prior to his tenure in Leitrim, the Wexford native made significant contributions while working with Waterford City and County Council, amassing over two decades of experience in the field.
