A new radio series, telling the story of a remarkable group of Kilkenny people, who have been delivering aid to Chernobyl for over 25 years will air on Community Radio Kilkenny City later this week.
The six-part series, beginning this Thursday, September 28, will recount the experiences of Jim Kavanagh and the Kilkenny Outreach group of Chernobyl Children International, shining a light on their efforts to provide supplies and hope to a population who are living with the reprocutions of the 1986 nuclear disaster, the world's greatest nuclear accident.
The series will include a mix of on location with interviews, including in and around Jim and Penny Kavanagh’s home and yard in Radestown, Kilkenny.
The efforts of the local men and women involved has been long-lasting, with vans and trucks departing the Marble City with nappies, clothes, toiletries, toys and more necessities a regular occurrence, with in excess of 60 official journeys having taken place.
As part of the radio documentary, members will reflect on the highs and lows of their experiences down through the years under the stewardship of the dedicated Jim Kavanagh.
The series will feature interviews recorded throughout a humanitarian trip to Poland and back; on land, on sea, at venues for deliveries and elsewhere.
Written and narrated by Declan Gibbons, the programmes will air every Thursday and Friday at 4.30pm, concluding on Friday, October 13.
Each broadcast will be live on 88.7fm and www.crkc.ie or can be listened to at any time as a podcast via the radio station's Mixcloud and Soundcloud platforms along with www.crkc.ie
