A scene from the final episode of The Inheritance, shot on High Street in Kilkenny City
The final episode of The Inheritance, a four-part family drama series shot in Kilkenny, aired on Monday on Channel 5.
The finale climbed in viewership from 1.7m to 1.8m, easily surpassing the 1m time slot average.
Produced by Eccho Rights, Lonesome Pine Productions and Peer Pressure, the drama opened earlier this month with a viewership of 2m. This made it Channel 5's best drama launch of the year.
Kilkenny City and Inistioge featured heavily as the background for the drama, which is set in Britain.
Many local people were also cast as extras for the filming of the series.
One of the producers is Richard Cook, who is well known locally as the founder of The Cat Laughs Festival and Subtitle and was also involved in the setting up of Kilkenomics.
To make it look more British, props such as red telephone boxes were added to scenes, as well as actors playing police officers and some building names were changed for exterior shots.
The Inheritance also boasted a stellar cast including Rob James-Collier, Larry Lamb, Kevin Whately, Gaynor Faye and Jemima Rooper.
