According to the latest homelessness report from the Department of Housing, in the last full week of August there were 45 people accessing emergency accommodation in Kilkenny.

This figure is one less than the figure recorded for July (46) but still more than June (43) and May (35).

There were 242 people accessing emergency accommodation in the last full week of August across the counties of Carlow, Kilkenny, Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford.

Nationally, the report shows a reduction of 156 individuals across the country when compared with the figures released in July.

This decrease is due to a correction of PASS data by the Dublin Regional Homeless Executive (DRHE).

The DRHE has appointed an independent person of appropriate qualification to review the data for the Dublin region.

The Department has also engaged with the County and City Management Association (CCMA) in order to confirm the robustness and integrity of emergency accommodation data collection nationwide.

The CCMA has agreed to an external review of processes and procedures for the collection of this data across all nine regional homeless leads in order to ensure the accuracy of the data.

Separately, the Housing Agency is now engaged with stakeholders to develop proposals on what further comprehensive metrics can be used to provide richer data in relation to emergency accommodation experiences.
