Since the opening of the first section of the South-East Greenway, visitor numbers have been impressive despite recent poor weather.

It was revealed at this month's meeting of Piltown Municipal District that 9,300 visitors used the first greenway stretch (Rosbercon to Glenmore) in August alone.

Since its opening, crowds have been enjoying this wonderful new amenity which takes in views of the scenic Pink Rock area and the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Bridge.

Next up, Lot 5A, Ferrybank to Curraghmore, will advance to the construction stage.

The tender assessment for this 5km stretch of greenway is now completed and has been approved by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).

It is anticipated that this works contract will issue to the successful contractor this week.

Kilkenny County Council are also currently exploring the option of including the preliminary design and planning for the Ferrybank Trailhead Car Park within the scope of the North - South Link Road brief.
