The ex-Argos unit on High Street in Kilkenny City
Plans from LHM Properties Holdings Limited seeking permission to convert the ex-Argos unit on High Street in Kilkenny into a convenience retailer with ancillary alcohol sales have been appealed to An Bord Pleanála.
The development comes after Kilkenny County Council originally granted permission to the applicant to alter the unit back in November, subject to two conditions.
Original plans sought for the intended layout of the unit to become a convenience store with an ancillary alcohol sales area, with a second and much smaller alcohol sales to be located behind the check-out area.
The floor area proposed for the display and sale of alcohol was planned to 'remain subsidiary to the use of the retail unit which relates to the sale of convenience goods'.
Permission was also sought for replacement shopfront signage on the High Street elevation, replacing the former Argos fascia and projection sign.
A limited plant area was also requested to be developed to serve the unit, to be located at first floor level.
A final decision is now expected from An Bord Pleanála by April 23, 2024.
