The South-East Greenway project team is currently in discussions with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) in a bid to advance works on the remaining sections of the greenway that are yet to be completed.
The news comes after it was recently revealed that no tender submissions had been received for the required technical services of an engineering consultancy team to complete the remaining phases.
The aim of the project team’s discussions with TII will be, according to a progress report document circulated to the elected members of Piltown Municipal District, ‘to agree a path forward to advance the appointment process’.
LOT 5A
Lot 5A of the greenway (c.5.5km from Ferrybank to Curraghmore) is currently progressing to programme under the stewardship of Glas Civil Engineering Ltd.
The anticipated contract completion date for that section is the end of 2024.
GLENMORE LINK
Planning is now in place for the link between the South-East Greenway and Glenmore.
A funding application is currently being prepared under the terms of the Rural Regeneration Development Fund (RRDF) to advance this project to detail design, land acquisition and construction phase.
The funding application will also incorporate the provision of a new Pink Rock Cycle Loop.
This would present greenway users travelling from the New Ross end with the option of cycling back on an alternative route along the scenic River Barrow.
INISTIOGE LINK
The tender assessment and recommendation report for technical consultancy services to identify and progress a route to planning has been approved by TII.
The appointment of the successful engineering consultancy team will begin a new chapter in the development phase for this planned new link section.
SLIEVERUE LINK
The feasibility and route selection report for the greenway link to Slieverue has been completed.
Consultation is ongoing with the TII’s ‘Structures Section’ prior to beginning the planning process.
