Councillor Pat Fitzpatrick has welcomed today's announcement that Kilkenny County Council will receive allocated funding of just under €18 million for local road projects, but stressed to the Kilkenny People that more funding is needed.
"While the funding announcement is welcome, I don't believe it's sufficient to cover the scale of works required across the county," he said.
"We urgently require more Local Improvement Scheme (LIS) and Community Involvement Scheme (CIS) funding to clear the huge backlog of works necessary on the county's smaller rural roads and laneways.
"This is something that we've been calling as councillors in the Castlecomer Municipal District for years at this stage."

The overall national funding package will allow approximately 3,100 kilometres of regional and local roads to be maintained and 2,550 kilometres to be strengthened.
