Works on a one-way system in Kilkenny are expected to begin shortly following consultation with the National Transport Authority to re route the KK2 bus service during the duration of the works.
City engineer, Ian Gardner explained that talks are ongoing at present.
“As the works on Vicar Street will make the street one-way for vehicular traffic, this will impact the KK2 route of the Kilkenny City Bus Service.
“We are currently in discussions with the NTA about how the necessary alterations to the KK2 route will be implemented. This will need to be done in advance of works commencing and we estimate that it will take six to eight weeks for this process to completed. Vicar Street works will commence shortly thereafter,” he said.
The works are being carried out to improve cyclist and pedestrian facilities. The proposed one-way system will allow the carriageway width to be reduced and the ‘spare’ width will be allocated to pedestrians and cyclists. The direction of the traffic will be inbound.
