WARNING: Do not swim in popular Kilkenny bathing spot due to risk of illness

Due to water quality issues at The Thomastown Weir Pool Swimming Area, Kilkenny County Council have advised that swimming is prohibited until further testing is completed, due to risks associated with the levels of bacteria found.

The local authority said that 'swimming in this water may cause illness'.

Further water testing will be completed as soon as possible, and results will be published when available.

Further updates will be issued on Kilkenny County Council social media outlets and information will be posted at the swimming area.

BATHING IS PROHIBITED DUE TO : Water quality due to the presence of bacteria
LIKELY CAUSE : Heavy rainfall and run off from lands
EXPECTED DURATION: 3 to 4 weeks
ACTIONS TAKEN/PROPOSED: Further water testing proposed when flood waters subside / weather improves

Also, Kilkenny County Council wish to advise that the following areas are closed due to no lifeguards:
1) Graignamangh
2) Inistioge
3) Thomastown
4)Bishops Meadows

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused," they added.
