St Luke's General Hospital

A full visitor ban remains in place across St Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny at the time of going to print.

The restrictions were introduced on Thursday, June 27 following outbreaks of Covid-19 and Norovirus. However, a full visitor ban in hospital was later implemented as a precautionary measure.

Access to wards is now only allowed in exceptional circumstances, as determined by each ward manager.
Visiting is only permitted for two nominated family members in circumstances of Maternity, End-of-Life or to visit a critically ill loved-one.

Only one nominated relative utilising correct PPE and hand hygiene is permitted to visit an End of Life Covid-19 patient.
One parent only will be allowed visit children in the Paediatric Unit at any time. Children should not visit the hospital.

Designated visitors will be asked to wear a mask and appropriate PPE whilst in the hospital.
All other visiting is one visitor per patient for 30 minutes per day and the situation will be reviewed on an on-going basis. Any further changes will be advised.

According to a hospital spokesperson, there are a number of Covid and non-Covid-19 patients presenting to the ED. They ask the public to consider their care options, if possible and to consult with your GP or pharmacist before attending ED in St Luke’s General Hospital. However, if urgent care is required, patients should attend the hospital.
They also advise patients to only attend the hospital ED if absolutely necessary and to not bring children (unless the children are ill).

St Luke’s General Hospital would like to assure people that anyone seriously injured or ill will be assessed and treated as a priority.
