As local politicians started to get their local election campaigns underway in April, there was anger when they felt ‘bypassed’ on major, local decisions. Scroll down to read on and click NEXT to see more photographs.
There were visible scenes of anger at a county council meeting as they hit out at their inability to influence decisions on wind energy development in the county and the selection process for refugee/ asylum seeker accommodation.
Elsewhere in the county, it was revealed that the number of taxi licences in Kilkenny had fallen by 14% in four years.
In 2019, 253 taxi licences were recorded in Kilkenny. This dropped to 204 in 2022 before recovering slightly to 217 in 2023.
One local taxi licence holder, Cllr Eugene McGuinness, said ‘it can be a dangerous occupation’.
Motorists did have some good news this month, when a motion to amend controversial new parking measures was approved.
The changes were made due to ‘public dissatisfaction’ with the changes brought in the previous January.
