April - Big changes to parking in the city and masterplans proposed for rural towns

It now only happens every two years, so there was great excitement in Kilkenny, in April, when a new Kilkenny Rose was chosen.


Castlecomer’s Lisa O’Rourke was crowned, in Kilkenny, by reigning International Rose of Tralee, New York Rose Roisín Wiley.

The village of Ballyragget was also in focus in April when Kilkenny County Council began consultation for a masterplan of the area that aims to bring vibrancy back to the town. “This will be a living, breathing document that will bring changes to Ballyragget, which is such a fabulous town,” local councillor Pat Fitzpatrick said.


It was announced that other areas of the county were also to benefit from infrastructure funding.
Just under €18 million was allocated to Kilkenny County Council from the Department of Transport for local road projects, with 49 specific allocations listed.
Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Kilkenny County Council  announced the signing of a new construction contract to upgrade the drinking water supply in Gowran, Goresbridge and Paulstown.
