BREAKING: Water restrictions to begin tonight in area of Kilkenny

Uisce Éireann wishes to advise customers in the Castlecomer area of North Kilkenny that overnight supply restrictions 'are required in order to conserve water and maintain a daytime supply'.

Starting tonight, overnight restrictions will be in place from 9pm until 9am until further notice.

Homes and businesses are being asked to be mindful of their water usage to allow supply to catch up with demand and enable water levels to replenish.

Customers in the following areas may experience interruptions to supply, discolouration or reduced pressure during these times: Clogh, Ardra, Massford, Moneenroe, Coolbawn and Castlecomer.

Customers should allow 3-4 hours after the estimated restoration time for supply to fully return.

Speaking about the restrictions, Uisce Éireann’s Shane Aylward said that 'due to significantly low reservoir levels these restrictions are necessary in order to maintain and protect a daytime supply'.

"We understand the inconvenience that restrictions cause and want to thank the community for their patience," he added.

Uisce Éireann has also launched a free text service, providing real-time updates for local issues. Customers can sign up with their Eircode and mobile number at www.water.ie.
