LATEST: Kilkenny gardaí speak out after dangerous high speed chase locally

Gardaí on routine patrol in Kilkenny City stopped two cars being driving 'extremely dangerously' shortly before 6pm on Monday evening as reported by Kilkenny Live.

Both cars appeared to match the descriptions of two that had been reported stolen to us by their owners only days previously, and both thefts were under investigation by gardaí.

An Garda Síochana took to social media to describe the chase from their perspective.

"The drivers ignored our repeated prompts to safely stop and with other road users and the public's safety in mind, we undertook a pursuit with the support of colleagues from across Kilkenny, Carlow and Waterford.

"We deployed our stringer device near the N25 at Grannagh Roundabout in order to bring both drivers to a halt - as you can see - it was just the trick to deflate their tyres," they added.

"Very luckily, no injuries were reported after one of the two offending vehicles collided with a separate, third-party vehicle.

"While a number of those involved did attempt to evade us on foot, all eight male juveniles were arrested and detained for questioning," the post continued.

"All eight have now been released without charge pending further investigation and while files are being prepared for the Garda Youth Referral Programme."
