'They have show little to no concern' - Fears grow over dangerous Kilkenny road

Sinn Féin TD for Carlow-Kilkenny Natasha Newsome Drennan has described the government's decision not to provide funding for the upgrading of the N25 Waterford to Glenmore road as a 'failure'.

"The road along the N25 has seen a series of devastating collisions that have caused unimaginable heartbreak to families and communities across the area," Deputy Newsome Drennan said in the Dáil.

Over 80 people have been killed along this road over the past 40 years, 13 since 2015 and four since the proposed upgrade works were paused in 2022.

"It is operating completely over capacity. It is currently operating at almost double the appropriate usage levels," she claimed.

"These concerns have been repeatedly raised with in the Dáil with the Minister for Transport and with Transport Infrastructure Ireland. But they have shown little to no concern for the dangerous conditions along this road.

"This is a vital road for the whole region, the Minister for Transport and his Department need start treating with a high level of urgency," the Carlow-Kilkenny TD concluded.
