Joe Mulhall with his certificate of recognition
Kilkenny man Joe Mulhall has finally received ‘The Freedom of the Bakers’ Guild’ in the city of London.
It comes only 40 years after qualifying for it as the top student at the National Bakery School, London South Bank University. A lovely evening was had.
Joe is the new product development manager in Kells Wholemeal Mill in Bennettsbridge. He previously featured on the front page of the Kilkenny People — in September 1984 — as a 19 year old, when he won the prestigious honour of Top Student of the Year at the National Bakery School. IRONMAN
It has certainly been a busy few days for the Mulhall family, with Martin Mulhall recently competing in his third Ironman competition.
It wasn’t without drama, as the day before the race, the weather was a complete washout. The campsite got flooded and he ended up sleeping in the car. The following day, the swim was then cancelled due to water quality.
Martin completed the 180km cycle and the 42.2km marathon run in Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia, in the fantastic time of 9 hours, 41 minutes, and one second. He placed 165 out of 868. He now qualifies to participate in the Ironman World Championships, which take place in Nice, France on September 14, 2025.
