Cllr Pat Dunphy (FG) has been confirmed as the new Cathaoirleach of Piltown Municipal District following an AGM held earlier today (Wednesday) in Ferrybank, South Kilkenny.
He told elected members and council officials present at the meeting that he is proud to represent the people of South Kilkenny.
Cllr Dunphy is taking the reins from outgoing Cathaoirleach Ger Frisby (FF), who wished him well in his new role.

Cllr Frisby thanked his fellow elected members for their 'politeness and co-operation' during his chairmanship.
He expressed his satisfaction that the local elected members 'work well as a group' and reiterated the importance of 'serving the public'.
In another key appointment, Cllr Fidelis Doherty (FG) has been confirmed as the new Leas-Chathaoirleach for the district, taking over from Cllr Jenny Catt Slattery (FF).
Cllr Doherty also thanked her fellow elected members, and expressed her ambition to represent the district well in her new role.

Councillors in the Piltown Municipal District represent a contrasting mix of urban and rural communities in County Kilkenny.
Some of the larger urban areas in the district include Mooncoin, Piltown, Mullinavat and parts of Ferrybank.
Councillors hold their monthly meetings in the council library in Ferrybank.
Big issues in the locality include road and water infrastructure, housing, farming, the rising cost of living and healthcare.
There are five seats in the district, and the current councillors are: Pat Dunphy (FG), Tomás Breathnach (Labour), Fidelis Doherty (FG), Ger Frisby (FF) and Jenny Catt Slattery (FF).
