Fined Kilkenny driver admits that 'he was caught rotten' by gardaí

Gardaí in Kilkenny have taken to social media to outline an encounter they had recently with a motorist in Kilkenny.

"One of our lads was chatting with the recipient of an FCPN (fixed charge penalty notice) for holding a phone earlier," a garda spokesperson said.

"The chap had no qualms, he said he was caught rotten. He'll pay his fine and take his 3 points. He didn't ask 'have you nothing better to do? or 'you must be mistaken, I was scratching my face'.

"He didn't get angry or wheelspin away. He just exchanged pleasantries and understood that the garda was doing his job. He knew that it was his mistake and that he'd just have to accept sometimes we get caught.

"We don't actually enjoy giving out tickets and people don't like getting them but when you see the results of distracted driving, speeding and non-use of seat belts, it's a necessity."
