Speaking during the visit, Heather said that she ‘was delighted to visit the DCCI in Kilkenny today and have the opportunity to meet CEO Mary Blanchfield, her brilliant staff and view some of the amazing exhibitions’.

She continued: “When I was Minister for Business, I was committed to supporting DCCI and the wonderful work they do.

“I was delighted in 2023 to open the DCCI Academy of Jewellery and Goldsmithing. That brilliant project saw the Sessions House building, a former courthouse in the centre of Thomastown, transformed into a new home for the jewellery academy.

“As President, I would be committed to supporting our wonderful designers and craftspeople. I want to lead trade missions that promote their products overseas and open up new markets for them.

“The design and craft sectors make a huge contribution to our country, economically and culturally. I want to use the Presidency to support them.”

Another stop was at the new Mayfair Library in Kilkenny City.

"In 2024, I was proud to open the beautiful Mayfair Library in Kilkenny," Humphreys said.
