'Ridiculous' - Major changes announced to Kilkenny bus service with opinion divided

From today (Tuesday) JJ Kavanagh has confirmed its services will be going fully cashless on all routes, except Local Links.

"Local Link services are not affected – you can still pay with cash as usual on all Local Link routes," a spokesperson for the company said.

"We’re grateful for everyone’s understanding as we make travel faster, safer, and simpler across our main routes and we want to reassure our Local Link passengers that nothing is changing for you.

"Thank you for travelling with us and helping make every journey quicker, safer and easier for everyone," they concluded.

In response, some local bus users have been left disappointed.

"Absolutely ridiculous. Not everyone has a bank card or a leap card," one bus user wrote.

"I've been using JJ Kavanagh for a good couple of years and I've only every seen a handful of people paying cash, as they book online anyway so they can be sure to get a seat," another person said.

"Any alternatives for those without cards?," another questioned.
