Kilkenny City still ranks highly on the national scale

Three Kilkenny areas have retained their gold status at the SuperValu Tidy Towns Awards.

Kilkenny City, Tullahought and Inistioge all maintained their gold status following a ceremony in Croke Park on Thursday evening. - MORE DETAILS HERE FROM OUR REPORTER CAHAL MCAULEY

There was 929 entries in total with county towns and villages fighting it out in a range of categories. - YOU CAN WATCH THE CEREMONY HERE

In terms of the big winners, Carrick On Shannon was crowned Ireland's Tidiest Town in a huge boost for County Leitrim.

"This is a wonderful achievement and a special moment of immense pride for Carrick-on-Shannon and indeed the wider county of Leitrim," Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary remarked.

Meanwhile, Dalkey in County Dublin was revealed as Ireland’s Tidiest Large Town, Rosscarbery in County Cork was named Ireland’s Tidiest Village while Tralee in County Kerry took the title of Ireland's Tidiest Large Urban Centre.
