A ‘night crew’ is set to commence the final phase of works for the major road safety project in the centre of Callan, next week.

Following a short delay, while waiting for the night crew to become available, road marking on the Green Street/ West Street/ Mill Street/ Bridge Street cross is set to start next Monday, November 18.

Area Engineer, Declan Murphy updated district councillors at their recent meeting.

He said the road markings will take four evenings to complete, then the fifth day will be required to finish work on the lighting poles themselves.

Cllr Joe Lyons welcomed the work, but said it is bringing to attention the heavy traffic coming through the town.

He asked if the council could look again at opening a link road from Mill Street to the Windgap Road, to take the passing traffic out of Callan town centre.
