Man, 20s, rushed to hospital with 'serious injuries' after one-punch assault

A man has been rushed to Cork University Hospital with "serious injuries" following a one-punch assault in Limerick city.

Gardaí have confirmed they are investigating an assault which occurred shortly after midnight on Sunday morning, February 18, 2024.

"The incident happened on Shannon Street in Limerick city. A man, aged in his 20s, is currently receiving treatment for serious injuries at Cork University Hospital.

"No arrests have been made at this time. Investigations are ongoing," said a garda spokesperson.

Gardaí in Henry Street are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this or who has any information to contact them at Henry Street garda station on 061 212400 the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda Station.

Video footage of the incident, which appears to be taken from an apartment overhead the street, has been widely shared on social media and WhatsApp.
