Garda charged with burglary and intending to pervert course of justice

A garda has appeared in court charged with intending to pervert the course of justice and burglary at a Dublin flat in 2021.

Robert Gorman, 43, with an address in north Dublin, appeared before Dublin District Court on Monday charged with three offences.

He is the fourth garda to appear before the courts in relation to an investigation into a Garda unit based in the Dublin region.

Gorman is charged with entering a flat in Mountjoy Square North on September 7 2021 as a trespasser with intent to commit theft.

He is also charged with intent to pervert the course of public justice in signing information for a search at the same Dublin flat between September 30 and December 30 2021.

He is also charged with creating three incidents on the Garda Pulse system on September 21 2021 with intent to pervert the course of public justice.

Detective Sergeant Paul Dowling told the court that Gorman was arrested on March 11 at Irishtown garda station.

He said he made no reply after being cautioned.

Gorman was remanded on continuing bail until service of the book of evidence on Friday May 17.

The court heard that the Director of Public Prosecutions’ directions are for trial on indictment.

Gorman, who appeared in court wearing a facemask, jeans, brown shoes and carrying a shopping bag, thanked the judge at the end of proceedings.
