Skeletal remains discovered by construction workers in Limerick

Skeletal remains have been recovered by construction workers carrying out groundworks for the Adare bypass in Co. Limerick.

A garda spokesperson has confirmed that gardaí were alerted after skeletal remains were found at a construction site near Adare on Friday last, April 12.

"The remains are believed to be historical, and the case has been referred to the National Museum of Ireland (NMI) following consultation with the Limerick City and County Coroner," said the garda spokesperson.

According to the National Museum of Ireland's human remains policy, discoveries of human remains must be reported to An Garda Síochána, and are referred to the coroner under the Coroner’s Act, 1962.

"If then deemed to be archaeological, they are referred to National Museum of Ireland," reads the museum's policy.

It's understands the remains found in Adare could be that of three people.

The skeletal remains have been removed from the site.
