Gardaí baffled during as they find caged fox cub in shed during searches
Gardaí in Mayo were left baffled on Friday morning as they discovered a caged fox in the county.
In a statement, gardaí said: "Gardaí out conducting planned searches of a number of properties in Co Mayo first thing this morning didn’t quite anticipate finding a caged fox cub.
"He is a very precious little fellow," they added.
The Garda statement pointed out that "foxes are wild animals and it is a criminal offence to keep any wild animal in captivity."

"We liaised with the local Dog Warden to bring him to safety right away and he was assessed by the vet this morning. The fox is now in the care of an animal rescue centre," they confirmed.
"We are currently investigating under the Animal Health and Welfare Act, 2013."
