'Heartfelt gratitude' after 61k raised to bring injured Irish woman home

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up by friends and family

Fundraiser set up to bring injured Irish woman home after car crash in Portugal

A fundraiser has been set up for a Mayo woman who was injured in a car accident in Portugal.

While attending a wedding abroad, Grace Carney, was injured in a car accident.

Grace’s best friend, Tatie Turke, said on social media: “Not my usual post or a post I even imagined I’d be writing but I desperately need yer help. My best friend Grace has sustained severe injuries from a horrific car accident whilst abroad with her husband. They need to get back to Ireland urgently on a private medical flight so they can operate on her. A little will mean the world.”

Her family and friends have organised a GoFundMe campaign to bring her back safely to Ireland. So far, over 61k have been raised.

"We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude for the incredible outpouring of support and generosity we have received. We are deeply moved by the entire community who have come together to help us during this time. Thank you all sincerely for your kindness and compassion. We will keep you updated on the plans to bring Grace and Shane home in the coming days. Thank you all from Grace, Shane and their families," said the organiser in a message on the fundraiser page.
