Appeal issued after pedestrian dies in collision in Co Mayo

An appeal for witnesses has been issued after a man died in a road collision in Co Mayo.

A man was arrested and released without charge in relation to the incident.

The incident involved a car and a pedestrian and took place on the main street of Ballinrobe after 6.30pm on Thursday.

The pedestrian, a man aged in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was removed to Mayo General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The scene has been preserved pending a technical examination and local diversions are in place.

A man aged in his 30s was arrested in connection with the incident and has been released without charge.

Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward and have asked that any footage is made available to them.
