Unaccompanied learner driver found to be twice the legal alcohol limit arrested in Kildare

This news comes after the Easter bank holiday weekend, where an extensive Garda Roads Policing Operation was in place

'Court to follow': Unaccompanied learner driver arrested during speed checks in Kildare

Initially being stopped for speeding, the driver was found travelling at a shocking 164km/h in a 120km/h area

It was a bad day for one unaccompanied learner driver in Kildare after they were arrested during a routine speed check.

Initially being stopped for speeding, the driver was found travelling at a shocking 164km/h in a 120km/h area. This was an alarming 44km/h over the speed limit. 

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána in Kildare took to social media, saying, "They were stopped and the driver was found to be an unaccompanied learner driver who was twice the legal alcohol limit.

"They were arrested. Court to follow," the spokesperson concluded.

This news comes after the Easter bank holiday weekend, where an extensive Garda Roads Policing Operation was in place between 7am on Thursday, April, 17 until 7am on Tuesday, April 22.

There were three fatalities on the roads during this period and 11 serious collisions took place that resulted in 12 people receiving serious and life-threatening injuries.

An Garda Síochána carried out more than 912 Mandatory Intoxicant Testing (MIT) checkpoints. Over 4,500 breath tests and 213 oral fluid tests were also performed, which led to 149 arrests for driving under the influence of an intoxicant this past bank holiday weekend.
