A crossroads in Goresbridge is so dangerous that a local councillor is calling for additional safety measures - even though two stop signs and flashing lights have already been erected at the junction!
Traffic needs to slow down approaching the Murphy’s Cross junction, the recent meeting of Castlecomer Municipal District councillors was told.
Cllr Denis Hynes said he accepted they could not have speed ramps installed but asked if they could have ‘orange bollards’ on the road between the garda barracks and the cross, so the road is ‘narrowed in a small bit’ and motorists will slow down to ‘see what’s happening.’
Area Engineer, Philippe Beubry, said he had discussed the safety measures at the junction with the county council’s road design section and the bollards could be an issue for HGVs turning and other vehicle access to properties along the road.
They are not suitable for that area, he said.
Vehicle feedback signs have been installed on both approaches to the junction, Mr Beubry added.
Cllr Pat Fitzpatrick appealed for motorists to slow down and obey the signs.
