Local Cllr Pat Fitzpatrick welcomes the allocation of €7.099 million for road improvements across North Kilkenny. This significant funding will support essential road restoration, including road maintenance, drainage works, low-cost safety schemes, and both local and regional maintenance.
Cllr Fitzpatrick highlighted the importance of this funding for roads like Old Road in Moneenroe, Fr Raftice Place, the Mountain Road at Knockshanbally, the Protestant Road in Coon and the Church Avenue Castlecomer.
However, Cllr Fitzpatrick emphasized that additional funding is needed to address the significant damage caused by recent storms. North Kilkenny has the longest stretches of roads in the county within our municipal district, and major repairs are necessary.
"I will continue to fight for extra funding to repair the damage caused by these storms. Our roads are essential for the safety and livelihood of our community, and we need extra resources to restore them to the highest standard," stated Cllr Fitzpatrick. "I will be asking the CEO of Kilkenny County Council to formally request this additional funding."
Cllr Fitzpatrick also expressed his gratitude to the area engineer and all outdoor staff for their ongoing hard work on these projects.
