Kilkenny parish set up petition to keep popular priest

People in the Lisdowney, Ballyragget and Ballyouskill parishes will have an opportunity to sign a petition in an attempt to keep Fr Eamonn O'Gorman as Parish Priest in the area.

Earlier this week, the Bishop of Ossory, Niall Coll confirmed a number of changes within the Diocese meaning many Kilkenny parishes will be bidding farewell to former parish priests and welcoming new ones in August.

However, after widescale disappointment, petitions for people in the North Kilkenny parishes to sign, if they wish, will be available at local businesses and outside masses this weekend.

"Fr Eamonn O'Gorman has been a deeply valued and spiritual leader, offering unwavering support, compassion and dedication to the people he serves," a spokesperson said.

"His presence has greatly enriched our communities, and his departure would be a profound loss to many.

"With heart felt sincerity, we ask that this decision be reviewed in light of the strong pastoral bond he has formed with us all," they added.

Meanwhile, Kilkenny Live readers in the area have shared their disappointment over the news.

"There will be a lot of people very sorry to see Father O Gorman leave Ballyragget, he certainly was a friend to all," one person said, with another commenting, "Fr O' Gorman will be very much missed he is a true people person, wishing him all the best in your new parish."
