Gardaí and local political representatives are urging drivers in County Kilkenny to be extra vigilant on the roads during deer rutting season this October.
Deer are more active and unpredictable at this time of year, particularly at dawn and dusk and incidents with motorists coming upon deer on both county and main roads a possibility.
North Kilkenny based councillor, Cllr Michael McCarthy has called for the installation of flashing signs at Kilrush in Freshford to increase driver awareness.

"Every year we have a number of incidents up there," he commented.
"A lot of people are not aware of the dangers on that stretch of road and I think bringing flashing signs would be a real way of bringing awareness to people who very often just drive willy nilly and don’t mind a sign (without lights) whatsoever," he said.
Meanwhile, Cllr Mary Hilda Cavanagh thinks the upgrade in signage is necessary.
"You do forget. People don’t realise the danger," Cllr Hilda Cavanagh said.
"There has been accidents and it’s at dawn and dusk so people are coming or going to work."
A proposal has been sent to the Department of Transport with an outcome expected later this year.
