'Horrible' - Fears for residents living in 'dangerous' Kilkenny area

Councillors have expressed fresh concerns over driver and pedestrian safety on a County Kilkenny road.

Speaking at the most recent sitting of the Castlecomer Municipal District, Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Cllr Mary Hilda Cavanagh requested the erection of overtaking signs, slow down signs and the implementation of a continuous white line on the Tullavolty road from the motorway bridge to the nearby group of houses on the Rathdowney side, stating, 'people trying to leave their homes are at risk'.

"The speed on that road is horrible to say the least. You try and observe the speed limit and you’ll be over-taken in an area where cars are trying to get out. It’s just dangerous," Cllr Cavanagh continued.

"Pedestrians are safe enough but it’s the people trying to get in and out of their houses that are at risk.

"There’s non-stop complaints coming from road users," she added.

A spokesperson for the Roads Department of Kilkenny County Council confirmed a safety survey would take place on the road with further details expected in the coming months.
