Kilkenny motorists travelling on the M8 are being warned of a major temporary closure between Urlingford and Horse and Jockey as resurfacing works get underway.
Kilkenny County Council has advised that the southbound M8 between Junction 4 (Urlingford) and Junction 6 (Horse and Jockey) will be closed from October 12 until November 13, 2026.
The closure will be in place each day from 8am to 6pm to facilitate road resurfacing works.
Motorists are being warned that reduced speed limits will also be in place for the duration of the works.
A diversion route will be in operation, with southbound traffic being diverted from Junction 4 on the M8 onto the R693.
Traffic will then be directed to turn right onto the R639 towards Urlingford, before continuing for approximately 18.9km to Horse and Jockey.
At the junction, motorists should turn right for Dublin/Cork on the M8 and rejoin the southbound carriageway at Junction 6.
The council has warned that the works are weather dependent and may be subject to change at short notice.
Motorists are being urged to allow additional time for their journeys while the closure and diversion are in place.
Kilkenny County Council has apologised for any inconvenience caused and thanked road users for their cooperation during the works.
