The Ireland Women's Team will bring home a trophy after winning the Trophy Stage at the 2024 Homeless World Cup in Seoul, South Korea.

The Irish women's soccer team beat the US 5-2 in their Trophy Stage Final following a sensational performance at the tournament. The girls in green scored 42 goals across 10 games.

Last year, the women's team finished fourth at the tournament in Sacramento, US.

The Homeless World Cup is a global project where soccer is used as a tool to overcome homelessness and social isolation. The landmark tournament celebrates the year-round activity of the organisation.

The group's mission is to use football to support and inspire people who are homeless to change their own lives; and to change perceptions and attitudes towards people who are experiencing homelessness.

This is the first time the tournament was hosted in Asia where 52 teams, 38 nations, and 450 players took part in the international street football event.

The Men's Team also put in a solid performance, finishing 8th overall following a defeat to Northern Ireland in their Trophy Stage Final.

Commenting on the successes of both teams in Seoul, Irish Street League CEO Chris O'Brien, who has been with the two teams in South Korea, said: "It is truly inspirational to see how these 15 people have transformed their lives through football. They have experienced so many hardships in their lives yet here they are representing their country on the world stage and doing themselves, their families & friends and the nation proud.

"All of the hard work that these fantastic men and women have put in over recent months paid off in how they performed over their 10 games in this tournament and they truly deserve every single plaudit that might come their way. Their respective journeys was always about more than the football but this is further proof of how a ball can change a life."

Congratulating the teams for their stellar performances, he said: "It has been a brilliant tournament and an unforgettable experience, but it's only the beginning of a bright future for these amazing people."

The two squads will return home on Monday afternoon at Dublin Airport where they will be welcomed back by family and friends.
