OPEN Week drew large numbers to the Kilkenny club despite the recessionary times and the week was very successful. Thanks went to all sponsors who helped make the week such a success.

The week was busy for Captain Michael Mahony and competition secretary Michael O’Reilly. Thanks to the staff in the Pro shop, on the course, in the office, in the bar and kitchen the week went like clockwork.

Ladies day was a three person rumble, sponsored by the Ormonde Hotel. The winners with 85 points were Breda Phelan (28), Catriona Lynch (30) and Annette Hogan (27), Callan. Second were Castlecomer’s Margie Gannon (36), Jean Jackman (30) and Noreen Kinsella (25).

The Open Week three person team event, sponsored by Aviva Insurance, was won by the all ladies team of Mags Cuddihy (9), Catherine Griffin (20) and Cecily Costelloe (21) with 89 points. They turned with 41 points and added a massive 48 on the back nine.

They had added 21 points for the first four holes on the back nine. This was given a major boost when they recorded eight points on the 14th thanks to a birdie by Mags and a par by Catherine. They followed with seven points on the 15th where Catherine birdied and Cecily had a par.

They held their game together and added 12 points for the closing three holes to win by one. Second were Pat Butler, senior (7), Pat Butler, junior (9) and Ollie Hickey (16) on 88 points. They had six birdies between them and had steady halves of 44 on each nine.
