Kilkenny councillor and General Election candidate Eugene McGuinness has pledged he will be back at his desk on Tuesday to 'serve the people of Kilkenny as committed and determined as ever'.

McGuinness failed to secure a Dáil seat in his first attempt with his General Election elimination confirmed after count seven at the Kilkenny Count Centre on Sunday evening.

"Thank you most sincerely to all of you who came out to support me in recent general election, unfortunately it was not our day but I’m sure we’ll have others," the Independent councillor commented.

"I’ll be back at my desk tomorrow to continue with my work as a councillor to serve the people of Kilkenny as committed and determined as ever," he continued.
