Joe Coogan
Joe Coogan Auctioneer leased agricultural land in County Kilkenny and County Laois with no entitlements, at his auction room Ballycomey House Castlecomer, Kilkenny on Friday, January 26.
The lands include a 13.75-acre field and farm buildings in two lots on the outskirts of Rathdowney Co Laois. One lot of 13.75 acres was leased for €560 per acre, total €7,700. A separate adjoining lot consisting of farm buildings with accommodation for 100 store cattle was leased for €4,500 per year, with the total letting price €12,200.
A 9.5-acre field on the outskirts of Rathdowney, Co Laois was leased for €520 per acre per year, while a 7.5-acre field on the outskirts of Rathdowney, Co Laois was leased for €470 per acre per year.
Thirty-four acres on the outskirts of Rathdowney, Co Laois was leased for €460 per acre per year. All the lands are of prime agricultural quality, presently in permanent pasture, ideally suitable for grazing hay/silage, with water supply.
Sixteen acres outside Graignamanagh, Co Kilkenny was leased for €435 per acre per year. This land is currently in tillage, with no water supply.
The auction room was at capacity with very interested bidders. This is a result of the change in Nitrate Rules which puts a lot of farmers into derogation, and they require more land to sustain their existing framing practice. The auction results showed that the land leasing market for 2024 will be every much on trend as 2023 land leasing prices.
