Auctioneer Joe Coogan, Castlecomer, Kilkenny
Last Friday, May 10, Joe Coogan had five individual public auctions: a 69 acre situated at Skehana, Castlecomer was sold for a total of €671,000 - close to €10,000 per acre.
The land was described as ideally suitable for summer grazing or planting, with the auction room at Ballycomey House, Castlecomer full to capacity, the opening bid was €400,000.
When the bidding reached €550,000, Joe Coogan, Auctioneer, was instructed by the owners to place the property on the market. Joe Coogan, Auctioneer, received an entire total of 68 individual bids before the hammer came down at €671,000. It was sold to a family from Ballinakill, County Laois.
Meanwhile, on the same day Joe Coogan Auctioneer leased four individual lots of land. 20 acres situated at Shankill, Paulstown was leased for five years for a total of €410 per acre.
Sixteen acres grazing land situated at Crutt, Clogh, Castlecomer was rented for €240 per acre until November 1, 2024.
Also 13 acres grazing land situated at Crutt, Clogh, Castlecomer was rented for €225 per acre until November 1, 2024.
Finally 32 acres of land situated at Knocknadogue, Castlecomer for one cut of silage only (not manured) made €150 per acre.
Joe Coogan Auctioneer has circa 45 acres of land for sale in Clorinka, Muckalee, on Friday, May 24 and circa 66 acres for sale at Kilbreedy, Rathdowney, Co Laois on Friday, May 31. Both auctions being held at the Auction Room, Ballycomey, Castlecomer.
