Tribute to kind, sincere and elegant Kilkenny woman who recently passed away

The late Dora Dempsey (née Byrne)

From the Castlecomer Notes (courtesy of Maurice Shortall) inside this week's Kilkenny People:

Marymount has lost one of its more senior and respected women with the death of Dora Dempsey (née Byrne), Marymount.

Dora’s kindness and sincerity was always to the fore from her early days growing up in Maryville to her many neighbours and friends in Marymount and further afield.

Always dressed to perfection she loved the bit of style, elegance and Dora went hand-in-hand and she loved to socialise and got great joy from many table quizzes with her sisters.

If Dora Dempsey couldn’t do a good turn for you, then she most certainly wouldn’t do a bad one.

Work took her initially to the Cannery in Carlow and subsequently to 'Comer Mills where she was like a mother hen to all the employees in the canteen. It was fitting that Dora should end her time working at Lyster's Shop on The Square.

Burial was in the parish cemetery after Requiem Mass celebrated by Fr Ian Doyle, Associate Priest, Castlecomer assisted by Fr Richard Scriven, PP Castlecomer.

Predeceased by her parents Molly and Edward Byrne, sister Sally, brothers Mick and Joe, Dora is survived by her husband Jack; daughter Margo; son-in-law Tom; grandchildren Ross and Leanne; granddaughter-in-law Aurelie; great grandchildren Siena, Rhys, Abby, Elysse; sisters Marie (England), Breda, Margaret, Geraldine; brothers Ned (Kilkenny) and Noel (Germany); brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews, neighbours and many friends.
